Black Canadians Food Security and Climate Change Association

Food security, climate action, and community strength—rooted in Calgary, Alberta.

We are a registered non profit organization advancing purposes that span food access, education, research, environmental protection, and partnerships. Our work is grounded in the needs of Black communities from coast to coast, coordinated from our headquarters in Calgary, Alberta.

Mission statement

The Black Canadians Food Security and Climate Change Association is dedicated to advancing equitable access to safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food while promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices. Through community engagement, research, education, and advocacy, we empower Black communities across Canada—starting from our headquarters in Calgary, Alberta—to build food sovereignty and contribute to climate change solutions.

The Organization's purposes

Our constitution sets out these non profit purposes. They guide every program, partnership, and policy effort we undertake.

  1. To relieve food insecurity by providing access to food and supporting sustainable food systems in Black Canadian communities.
  2. To advance education on climate change, food systems, and environmental sustainability.
  3. To undertake and support research related to climate change and food security.
  4. To advance environmental protection through community-based initiatives.
  5. To provide programs and partnerships that support equitable access to food and climate resilience.

Our goals

These goals translate our mission and purposes into concrete outcomes we pursue with communities, researchers, and partners.

  • Enhance food security

    Improve access to affordable, healthy, and culturally relevant food within Black communities across Canada.

  • Promote climate-smart agriculture

    Support the adoption of sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices that mitigate climate change and protect natural resources.

  • Community empowerment & capacity building

    Provide training, mentorship, and resources to individuals, farmers, and youth to strengthen skills in food production, environmental stewardship, and agribusiness.

  • Research & innovation

    Conduct and support research on food systems, climate change adaptation, and sustainable agriculture relevant to Black communities.

  • Advocacy & policy engagement

    Influence policies that address systemic barriers to food security and climate resilience for Black Canadians.

  • Partnerships & collaboration

    Build strong partnerships with Indigenous communities, academic institutions, government agencies, and other organizations to foster inclusive and sustainable food systems.

  • Education & awareness

    Raise awareness about the intersection of food security, climate change, and social equity through outreach programs and public engagement.

Who we are

Black Canadians Food Security and Climate Change Association operates as a nonprofit society accountable to its members and the communities it serves. While our headquarters are in Calgary, Alberta, our programs, research collaborations, and advocacy engage Black communities and allies across Canada.

We prioritize equitable access to food, climate-resilient practices, and knowledge-sharing—always in partnership with those most affected by food insecurity and environmental change.
